Why march in IWD?

International Women’s Day (8th March) is a global day of solidarity and action for equality, justice and liberation. It celebrates the achievements of the feminist movement and highlights the need to keeping fighting for women’s rights here and around the world.

Born from the struggles of working women over a century ago, IWD is a time to march together for safety, equality and respect, in our workplaces, communities and families.

Organised by SA Unions, in 2026 the IWD march and rally on Kaurna Yarta will be held on Saturday 7th March, 10:15am for a 10:30am start, at Tarntanyangga (Victoria Square – North end).

Speakers will include the Hon. Katrine Hildyard MP, Minister for Women; Kate Obee from SA Unions’ Gender Equality Project; and Aira Firdaus from Working Women’s Centre Australia. We will march together to Mukata (Hindmarsh Square).

Everyone deserves to feel safe, free from violence and discrimination.  We stand in solidarity with our sisters against violence and racism, and we’ll fight to protect human rights, choice, bodily autonomy and gender-affirming health care.

With the South Australian election around the corner on March 21, Working Women’s Centre SA are calling for reforms in South Australia, to:

We will be at International Women’s Day in solidarity with our fellow workers and sisters.

Come say hello, march with us and pick up a free badge for the campaign against NDAs: OUR SILENCE IS NOT FOR SALE!

A colourful circular illustration featuring a stylised face with one large eye visible. Overlapping the image is a bold sign that reads: "Our silence is not for sale" in multicoloured, hand-drawn text. The background is filled with abstract, vibrant shapes in red, yellow, teal, purple, and white.

The Working Women’s Centre SA is calling on the South Australian Government to legislate the restriction and regulation of NDAs, so that their overuse and misuse is stopped. Restricting NDAs is an important step in combatting sexual harassment in workplaces – find out why here.

Everyone is welcome at IWD – women and gender diverse people to the front. We are powerfully trans and sex worker inclusive. See you there, comrades!
