Welcoming the Royal Commission Report into Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence

This week the Royal Commission into Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence released its report, With Courage: South Australia’s vision beyond violence. We congratulate Natasha Stott Despoja AO and everyone who contributed to this report, in particular specialised services and those who shared their own lived experiences of domestic, family and sexual violence.

The report highlights the evidence that the majority of adult victim-survivors of domestic, family and sexual violence are women, and that this violence is deeply gendered, rooted in harmful patriarchal norms. With Courage is a rare, vital opportunity and a call to action, setting out clear steps to create a safer and more equal society.

We welcome the government’s immediate acceptance of seven recommendations and we join the call from Embolden for the government to prioritise sustainable funding for DFSV services. The report sets out a blueprint for change, and we look forward to working with the government, workplaces and the community to embrace this opportunity.

The Working Women’s Centre commits to playing our part by taking courageous action to prevent domestic, family and sexual violence. We are still making our way through the report, and we look forward to thinking through how these recommendations apply at a workplace level.
