National Sorry day commemorates the anniversary of the landmark Bringing them Home report, which was tabled in federal parliament 23 years ago today 26th May 1997.

We acknowledge the injustice, trauma & grief suffered by the Stolen Generations, their families & community.

The Working Women’s Centre SA also acknowledges that the effects of genocide on First Nations peoples are still ongoing. Indigenous children continue to be removed from community and country. In 2017, the Department of Territory Families was removing Indigenous children at a rate almost 10 times than non-Indigenous children.

This needs to change, because sorry is supposed to mean that you don’t do it again.
