Training
The Working Women’s Centre offers a variety of workplace and community organisation training programs, shaped by research and examples best practice.
Our programs have been developed to identify primary issues for vulnerable workers and intervention and prevention strategies.
Our goal is to provide workplaces with the practical tools to support their staff through training, policy development and ongoing consultation.
All training packages can be tailored to organisational need and new topics can be developed in consultation with your workplace.

About our training packages:
Recognise and Respond to Domestic and Family Violence in the Workplace
A joint workshop delivered by the Working Women’s Centre SA and Women’s Safety Services SA. Our training (aligned with White Ribbon Workplace Accreditation program criteria) is a comprehensive approach to understanding Domestic and Family Violence as a workplace issue with the collaboration of two training organisations with expertise in the Domestic Violence and Industrial Relations sector. The training provides further opportunity to for practical skills development and engagement strategies that build on existing knowledge.
What we will cover:
- Why is domestic and family violence a workplace issue?
- What is your role in recognising and responding to domestic and family violence at work?
- What is domestic and family violence safety planning at work?
- Strategies on what prevention initiatives will be implemented in the future.
- Understanding Gender Equity and Gendered Drivers and the role this plays in Domestic and Family Violence
Who this training is for: Managers, Executives, Site Leaders or Staff
Length: 3 hours
Workplace Equity and Respect
A workplace training program that provides organisations the tools needed to facilitate change in the workplace and the community. By identifying the gendered drivers of violence against women, teams can implement tools and processes to improve workplace culture and consciously support gender equity. This training uses framework from the Workplace Equality and Respect Standards developed by Our Watch and allows a collaborative approach to create a workplace and a society where women are safe, equal and valued.
What we cover:
- the prevalence, types and impacts of violence against women
- the drivers of violence against women, including the misconceptions about what causes violence against women
- how violence against women and gender inequality manifest and are reinforced in workplaces
- practical actions to prevent violence against women and promote gender equality in workplaces

Defining and Handling Workplace Bullying
This training package addresses the issue of workplace bullying and explores practical prevention strategies. Participants gain insight into what classifies as workplace bullying according to industrial law and how to create a positive workplace culture, committed to the promotion of supportive policies and free from unacceptable behaviours.
What we cover:
- Definition of Bullying.
- identifying the differences between bullying and harassment.
- Handling disclosures and managing complaints.
- Understanding the negative effect bullying has on the workplace.
- Current legislation and understanding employer obligations.
- Group Work: scenarios and practical learning activities.

Preventing and Addressing Sexual Harassment
This training is for organisations to increase knowledge of what sexual harassment in the workplace is according to current legislation. Organisations will learn practical strategies to prevent sexual harassment at work and how to create a positive workplace culture, free from inappropriate behaviours.
What we cover:
- Defining Sexual Harassment.
- Handling disclosures and managing complaints.
- Current legislation and understanding employer obligations.
- Understanding of the impact of sexual harassment on the workplace.
- Cultural context and community opinion.

Responding to Domestic and Family Violence Disclosures
This training is a comprehensive tailored approach to understanding DFV as a workplace issue for organisational staff or those who have nominated or been appointed in a DFV Contact Officer. A follow-up on the progress of prevention of violence against women in the workplace since the last training. As well as strategies on what prevention initiatives will be implemented in the future.
What we cover:
- Why is Domestic Violence a workplace issue?
- What is your role in preventing and responding to domestic and family violence at work?
- Handling disclosures and responsibility of a contact officer.
- What is domestic and family violence safety planning at work?
- Strategies on what prevention initiatives will be implemented in the future.
- Understanding Gender Equity and Gendered Drivers and the role this plays in Domestic and Family Violence
Who this training is for: Contact officers or those highly likely to receive a disclosure
Length: 3 hours
COVID-19 Virtual Training Seminars
All our training packages can be adapted to be delivered as a virtual seminar during the COVID-19 health crisis. We also offer additional workshops that provide information specifically when home has become a place of work covering the Occupational Health and Safety obligations and employer responsibilities according to current law: How to Support a Team Working Remotely, Handling Domestic and Family Violence Disclosures, Promoting positive health and safety, and other topics on the impact COVID-19 has on vulnerable workers.
